Setting the printer up with Mac OS X 10.5 or earlier
The printer is pretty "plug-and-play" using AppleTalk to communicate with Macs having OSX 10.5 or lower.
Setting the printer up with Mac OS X 10.6
Support for AppleTalk has been removed in OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, and we have to depend on IP printing instead. Here's how to do it:
From System preferences choose Print & Fax, and click the + button to add a new printer:

Instead of Default choose IP, and set the protocol to HP Jetdirect - Socket:

Now set settings like this and click the Add button:
